Charles and Helen Morita founded Charley’s Taxi in 1938 in Honolulu, Hawaii. Since then we’ve provided the highest stardard of transportation, innovated new services, and honed our logistics to continually strive for excellence.

Returning to Hawaii from San Francisco in 1967 to help run the family business, Dale has been with Charley’s for over 57 years. An integral part of the Charley’s Taxi leadership, Dale has helped keep the company’s high level of service standards throughout her years, and in 2003 took over as Chief Executive Officer.

Governor Jack Burns appoints Charley’s to become taxi concessionaire at Inter Island Airport to compete with SIDA.

Providing free transport for VASH (Visitor Aloha Society Hawaii) visitors in emergencies

  • Provided Airport Shared ride taxi program for Hilton.

  • Started the Honolulu Heart Program which helps provide MediCab services for veteran voluteers

  • Charley's launches partnership with Hilton and JTB to develop the highest taxicab standards in Hawaii.

  • Charley’s launches Japanese speaking dispatch service, the first and still only JSD in the USA.

Launched a comprehensive driver training program with written/oral tests and on the road and simulator evaluations before orientation/ onboarding, live safety coaching based on dashboard camera alerts, annual Defensive Driving Classes, and ongoing simulator training sessions.

Project Vision - Charley's provides free transportation for homeless patients from hospitals to the Medical Respite Kauhale as well as weekend transport of meals from Honolulu Community College to Kauhale residents.

Charley's led the industry for City Council to repeal the taxi medallion system that was instituted in 1942.
